Traces of Polish immigrants in Canonsburg  

Canonsburg is a district in Washington County, Pennsylvania, close to Pittsburgh. The town is in a rich coal district, and most of the town’s work force once worked in local steel mills or coal mines. Most of them were immigrants from Central Europe, most notably from Poland. Poles came to Canonsburg to work and improve their living conditions. Polish immigrants were part of Canonsburg’s community and often participated in various activities. They founded their own parish and parish school. In 1918 in Canonsburg there was also a small recruiting station for General Haller’s Army. The article aims to present the history of Polish immigrants in Canonsburg and is completed with a list of 400 selected names of the residents of Polish origin.
